Because pintos come in almost all breeds and sizes they are the ideal family horse/pony. Our aim is to breed affordable good types to suit the whole family and a range of disciplines for work and play!! We have found the pinto communtiy to be mostly very friendly, with members that are more about getting out and having a go than winning all the time, fun for the whole family.
When we breed we do so with consideration for the cross we are planning and what uses the foal may have. Our herd is always small (2-3 foals a year) to allow plenty of time to tend to individual mares and foals needs and education requirements.
We endeavour to keep the price of our sale stock at a reasonable level for the average horse owner to buy something that has been deliberately bred with attention to quality handling and bonus colour and rego. For the person who is unable afford a new horse for every thing they would like to try in their riding career.
To the new owners of our well handled foals we offer a support network keeping in contact to offer advice and help. We also encourage and welcome our foals being bought back to us to be started under saddle by offering a discount off our already reasonable rates.
In addition to breeding and standing our colts at stud, we buy/rescue horses on a case by case basis that we can resell/rehome, we look for horses eligible for pinto registration which we will do for them, break them in, handle etc and sell on. However we will never pass over a horse in need regardless of breed, colour or sex if we can make a difference.
Dustee Pintos offers terms on all our horses and depending on our needs at the time swap or part swaps.
WHY WE BREED
In all honesty it probably costs us more to breed the 3 foals a year than we get for them, we do this because for years we have been one of those families who had to "pay off" a $1000 horse, we pretty much still are (whoever said owning a horse means being broke got it very right!). Due to price those horses all had issues, people (usually new horse owners, horsey teenagers with unhorsey parents) are still conned into buying these cheapies thinking they will be the perfect horse only to find big problems down the track. We feel that if there were some purpose bred with all the basic care to breeding them (handling, nutrition while cooking, worming, vaccinations, branding, rego, bred from decent confo and temp) given at a comparable, competitive price then these ticking bombs would find less of a market and the true BYB would be phased out.
OUR STUD NAME & HOW IT CAME ABOUT
This came about as something country, memorable, short (more letters left for the horses name) and in honour of that Australian Legend SLIM DUSTY my favourite singer however we changed the "Y" to "EE" for distinction. We hope our horses will become as well known and respected as the man himself.
OUR STANCE ON HERDA, HYPP AND OLWS.
We see HERDA, HYPP and OLWS as diseases not to be passed on either as afflicted horses or carriers. As such we are slowly testing our stock for all 3 if needed and striking those affected horses (if any) from our breeding program.
IMPROVING OUR STUD
Everyone has to start somewhere, we've started with what we have had and continue to improve upon it little by little. While our horses have always been good handy types we are now aiming to have all of them carry some form of registration (and where possible more than one), to be tested for genetic diseases, all stock branded (especially our foals before they leave), to implement a vaccination program, introduce a more adequate form of record keeping and get our horses shown. As we improve our stock the horses/ponies being replaced are sold to loving RIDING homes with the same support offered to their new owners as buyers of our foals receive.
OUR LONG TERM STUD PLAN
Dustee Pintos have a soft spot for the dilute pintos and intend to further promote and breed horses and ponies with this in mind.
OUR HORSES
We are currently revising our small band of breeding horses and as such we are taking a break from breeding until we have the fillies/mares we want, break them in if necessary and introduce them to the show scene. In future we will be breeding and offering for sale pinto and dilute quarter ponies garuanteed to appeal to both the older and younger members of your family.
Our paint/pinto colts are our own personal mounts and we will be standing them at stud to the general public.
Our horses run in a herd enviroment so they are generally well rounded animals who can be what they are - horses. They are well mannered and well handled, they are not just horses but much loved family members. They are wormed and hoof trimmed regularly, handled daily, rugged when the season demands it, shown when we have the time and extra hands and seen by a horse dentist as necessary.
OUR HORSE SETUP/LOCATION & GENERAL AREA
Dustee Pintos have recently relocated to small acreage at Postmans Ridge Qld. Here we have the use of a number of paddocks and foaling/stallion paddocks on 20 something acres with a good supply of bore water. Our roundyard came with us and we have recently downgraded our 4 horse truck to a double float.
**All visits require prior appointment to be made.**
